Hair & Scalp Nourishment

Made with mineral-rich heritage ingredients — black sesame and black mulberry — traditionally valued in Asian food culture as nourishing foods for hair and scalp health. Supports your routine from the inside, through daily food.

Daily Mineral Support

Black sesame is naturally rich in calcium, magnesium, and iron. Black bean provides plant protein and fibre. Black rice is one of the most mineral-dense grains in Asian food tradition. Together, they support daily nourishment as whole food — not as supplements.

A Grounding Morning Ritual

Nourishment works best as a daily habit. Black Sesame Heritage is designed to help you build consistency — a warm, intentional ritual you actually want to return to each morning. Something that feels good before it does good.

Compendium of Materia Medica — Bencao Gangmu

In 1596, the Ming dynasty physician Li Shizhen completed the Bencao Gangmu — a monumental 52-volume compendium documenting over 1,800 medicinal substances, including black sesame. Considered one of the most significant works in the history of Traditional Chinese Medicine, it drew together centuries of accumulated knowledge into a single authoritative reference that influenced generations of practitioners across East Asia. Black sesame appears within its records not as a curiosity, but as a staple — a food respected for its role in long-term nourishment.

i. Longevity

Historically recorded as a food associated with vitality and sustained nourishment over a lifetime — eaten regularly rather than occasionally.

ii. Hair

Traditional Chinese Medicine associated black sesame with nourishing the Kidney system — historically connected to the health of hair, particularly during periods of depletion or change.

iii. Blood

Traditionally used to nourish blood and support the body during periods of deficiency — included in foods prepared for recovery, rest, and seasonal transitions.

iv. Modern Understanding

Contemporary nutrition research shows black sesame naturally contains antioxidants, dietary fibre, minerals including calcium and iron, and healthy fats. The traditional understanding and the modern one arrive at similar conclusions by different paths.

One of the most thorough compilations of traditional medical knowledge in East Asian history — a text that shaped how generations of physicians and families understood the relationship between food and the body. Consuming black sesame for one hundred days may prevent many ailments. The complexion becomes radiant. Grey hair may return to black over time.

Historical references describe how black sesame was viewed and recorded within Traditional Chinese Medicine. ROOTED presents this context with respect for the tradition and without making claims that go beyond what current scientific evidence supports. These notes are educational and cultural, not medical advice.
