ROOTED — Our Story
ROOTED · Our Story

This didn't begin
as a business idea.

It began as a personal return. A woman who grew up between cultures, lost something she couldn't name, and found her way back through her grandmother's kitchen.

Read the story

ROOTED exists for people who feel, in some quiet way, that something in modern life feels missing.
Not the past. The feeling of it.

A bowl on a table.
The same bowl, every morning.

I stopped paying attention to warmth.
I stopped paying attention to the season.
I stopped listening to what my body needed.
I found myself living on convenience.
The Ordinary Life I Left Behind

The rituals that
shaped me were invisible.

I am Japanese. Growing up, I didn't think much about the way we ate or prepared things. The warm drinks my grandmother made without a recipe. The way ingredients changed with the seasons. The belief — unspoken, simply practiced — that caring for yourself started from what you put inside your body.

It wasn't called wellness. It wasn't called anything. It was simply everyday life.

When I became an adult and moved abroad, living in Western environments where these habits were largely absent, I began to feel that something was off. I couldn't quite explain it. The rituals that had quietly shaped me disappeared — one by one, without announcement.

I couldn't explain what was missing. I only knew that, over time, I stopped feeling like myself.

I constantly felt cold. My cycles became more difficult. My hair became thinner. I was tired in ways I couldn't trace back to anything obvious. And slowly, I realised: I had stopped caring for myself from the inside out.

What I found when
I began learning again.

I want to be honest about something. This isn't a story about a founder who had a brilliant business insight. It's a story about a woman who got sick, went looking for answers, and found them in places she had walked past her whole childhood without noticing.

I come from a cultural inheritance that is layered — many of the traditions I grew up with as Japanese originally travelled from China, evolving over generations into what Japan has made its own. There is something quietly humbling about that. Wisdom moves. It crosses borders, changes shape, and keeps offering itself to whoever is willing to receive it.

As a child, these rituals felt ordinary. Unremarkable. My mother prepared certain things at certain times of year without explaining why. My grandmother had habits I took for granted. The kitchen knew things that no one had thought to write down — because why would you write down something everyone already knew?

Only after I had left did I understand what I had been given.

  • I revisited the traditions I had grown up with.
  • I asked questions I had never thought to ask before.
  • I researched the history behind the ingredients in my grandmother's kitchen.
  • I listened to the stories I had once overlooked.

And slowly — not overnight, not dramatically — I found my way back. Not to the past. Not to a way of life that no longer fits. But to something underneath all of it: the understanding that nourishment isn't something separate from daily life. It is daily life.

This isn't to say that tradition is a cure for everything.
And this isn't about rejecting modern life.

But it made me wonder: what if some of the wisdom passed down through our mothers and grandmothers still mattered?

What if those small rituals weren't old-fashioned at all? What if they were simply another way of paying attention?

ROOTED was born from that question. For people who have never been introduced to these traditions. For those who may have forgotten them. And for anyone who feels, in some quiet way, that something in modern life feels missing.

Not to return to the past. But to carry forward what still deserves a place at our table.

A question worth sitting with

What if the wisdom we were searching for
had been sitting quietly
in our kitchens all along?

Not ancient medicine. Not a supplement protocol.
Simply the daily act of nourishing yourself
the way someone who loved you would.

What We Make

Nourishing blends for the
daily ritual.

ROOTED makes latte blend powders inspired by traditional Asian food wisdom — drawn from six living traditions. Each blend is designed to become part of a daily morning practice. Not a supplement. Not a health product. A nourishing food ritual, returned to modern life.

Food, not supplement

Every blend is a food product. Whole ingredients, thoughtfully combined. No capsules, no clinical framing, no promises.

Ancestral wisdom, modern life

Our ingredients and their combinations draw from six Asian heritage traditions: TCM, Yakuzen, Ayurveda, Jamu, Filipino traditions, and Hanbang. We hold each tradition with respect and care.

The ritual is the product

The value of ROOTED is cumulative. One teaspoon, every morning. The same bowl. The practice, over time, is what matters — not any single serving.

Nothing invented, everything remembered

ROOTED did not invent these ingredients or their uses. We preserved and reintroduced them. The knowledge belongs to the traditions that carried it.

The Heritage We Draw From

Six traditions.
One daily practice.

ROOTED draws from six living Asian food traditions. Each is distinct, each has its own history, and each is approached with deep respect. We do not blend them carelessly — each product draws from the traditions it genuinely belongs to.

Traditional Chinese Medicine
East Asia · TCM

The foundation. Thousands of years of food-as-medicine wisdom that understands the body through warmth, balance, and seasonal nourishment. Black sesame, red date, and longan all have their roots here.

Yakuzen · Kampo
Japan · Food as medicine

The Japanese inheritance from Chinese food traditions — absorbed, evolved, and made its own. Yakuzen understands food as medicine prepared in the kitchen, not the clinic. Kinako, mugi, and black sesame porridge live here.

Ayurveda
South Asia · Jeevan shastra

One of the world's oldest living wellness traditions. Rooted in the understanding that nourishment must meet the individual. ROOTED's Ayurveda products are developed in partnership with South Asian cultural advisors.

Hanbang
Korea · Coming soon

Korean traditional medicine — a tradition shaped partly by Chinese influence and partly by Korea's own botanical landscape. Developed in partnership with Korean cultural advisors.

Cultural partnership in progress
Filipino Traditions
Philippines · Coming soon

A rich food culture that spans regional islands and centuries of indigenous plant knowledge. Developed in partnership with Filipino cultural advisors and makers.

Cultural partnership in progress
Jamu
Indonesia · Living tradition

Indonesia's herbal drink tradition — one of the oldest and most living wellness practices in Southeast Asia. Developed in partnership with Indonesian makers and cultural advisors based in Bali and Java.
